Luc De Prest werd op 21 november 1962 geboren in Brugge.
Opleiding, gegradueerd technieker in de mechanica.
Net als in de “Art & Craft” movement, honderd jaar geleden, ontwierp en maakte Luc in zijn beginjaren designvolle gebruiksvoorwerpen in metaal met een hoog artistiek gehalte. Onvermijdelijk evolueerde hij 30 jaar geleden naar beeldende kunstenaar. Hij laat zijn fantasierijke gedachten door zijn handen stromen en kiest zijn materiaal op basis van een gevoelsmatige affiniteit. Hij zoekt, verzamelt, selecteert en recycleert allerhande oude metalen stukken en onderdelen uit afgeschreven machines en industriële installaties op schroothopen. Deze onderdelen met hun functioneel verleden krijgen een nieuw leven en een plaats in het geheel.
Sculpturale compressie, deformatie en assemblage vormen de basis van zijn beeldtaal. Luc is gefascineerd door mens, dier en machine. Deze samensmelting vormt zijn pleidooi voor de afschaffing van de rigide grenzen tussen het organische en het machinale. Kunstige cyborgs of cybernetische organismen ontsproten in de fantasie van zijn geest. Luc haalt zijn inspiratie uit de natuur en de bionica, uit het leven en de techniek. De werkelijk zichtbare wereld wordt omgevormd door beelden die de werkelijkheid overstijgen.
Niets is toevallig of ondoordacht. Alles is esthetisch afgewerkt tot het kleinste detail. De unieke creaties, die een vreemde schoonheid – tegelijk speels en indrukwekkend – bezitten, stralen een onuitputtelijke bron van inspiratie uit waarmee Luc zijn artistieke honger stilt.

Luc De Prest est né à Bruges, le 21 novembre 1962.
Formation : technicien diplômé en mécanique.
Comme dans l’Arts & Craft Movement, il y a une centaine d’années, Luc a conçu et réalisé au début de sa carrière des objets d’utilisation courante en métal élégants, aux grandes qualités artistiques. Il a logiquement évolué il y a 30 ans vers les Arts plastiques. Il laisse ses pensées imaginatives couler dans ses mains et choisit son matériel sur la base d’une affinité émotionnelle. Il cherche, collectionne et recycle toutes sortes de vieux morceaux et pièces en métal de machines et d’installations industrielles mises au rebut. Ces pièces au passé fonctionnel acquièrent une nouvelle vie et une place dans le tout.
Compression, déformation et assemblage sculptural constituent la base de son langage visuel. Luc est fasciné par l’homme et la machine. Par cette fusion, il plaide pour la suppression des frontières rigides entre l’organique et le machinal. Des cyborgs artistiques ou des organismes cybernétiques ont germé dans son esprit. Luc s’inspire de la nature et de la bionique, de la vie et de la technologie. Le monde visible est transformé par des images qui transcendent la réalité.
Rien n’est laissé au hasard. Tout est réfléchi. Tout est fini de manière esthétique jusque dans les moindres détails. Les créations uniques, qui possèdent une beauté étrange – à la fois ludique et impressionnante – dégagent une source d’inspiration inépuisable avec laquelle Luc comble sa faim artistique.

Luc De Prest was born in Bruges on 21 November 1962.
College degree in mechanical engineering.
Just like in the “Art & Craft” movement, one hundred years ago, in his early years Luc designed and created metal designer utensils with a high artistic content. Inevitably, 30 years ago, he evolved into a visual artist. He lets his imaginative thoughts run through his hands, choosing his material with emotional affinity. He searches, collects, selects and recycles all kinds of old metal pieces and parts from discarded machines and industrial installations, mostly found on scrap heaps. These parts, which have a merely functional past are given a new life and a place in a new unit.
Sculptural compression, deformation and assembly are at the basis of his visual language. Luc is fascinated by people, animals and machines. This fusion reflects his calling for the abolition of the rigid boundaries between organic systems on the one hand and machines on the other. Artistic cyborgs or cybernetic organisms were born in the fantasy of his mind. Luc draws his inspiration from nature and bionics, from life and technology. In his works the real and visible world is being transformed by images that transcend reality.
Nothing is accidental or not thought-through. Down to the smallest detail everything is aesthetically finished. The unique creations, which possess a strange beauty – both playful and impressive – form an inexhaustible source of inspiration for Luc to satisfy his artistic appetite.

So wie in der “Art & Craft-Bewegung” vor hundert Jahren entwarf und fertigte Luc in seinen frühen Jahren Designobjekte aus Metall mit hohem künstlerischen Gehalt. Unvermeidlich entwickelte er sich vor 30 Jahren zu einem bildenden Künstler. Er lässt seine phantasievollen Gedanken durch seine Hände fließen und wählt sein Material aufgrund einer emotionalen Affinität aus. Er sucht, sammelt, selektiert und recycelt alle Arten von alten Metallteilen aus abgeschriebenen Maschinen und Industrieanlagen, welche er vor allem auf Schrotthalden findet. Diese Teile mit ihrer funktionalen Vergangenheit erhalten ein neues Leben und einen Platz in einer neuen Einheit.
Skulpturale Kompression, Verformung und Montage bilden die Grundlage seiner Bildsprache. Luc ist fasziniert von Menschen, Tieren und Maschinen. Diese Fusion widerspiegelt gleichzeitig sein Plädoyer für die Abschaffung der starren Grenzen zwischen dem Organischen und dem Mechanischen. Künstlerische Cyborgs oder kybernetische Organismen entstanden in der Fantasie seines Geistes. Luc lässt sich von der Natur und der Bionik inspirieren, vom Leben und der Technik.
